Commencement Celebration 2019

Transcript

This video features a montage of different shots taken from the 68th Brandeis Commencement celebration.

The video starts by fading into upbeat music and a shot of a student. The student stands above other students in her cap and gown waving flowers in the air. The screen changes to a wide angle panning shot of the mortar boards of several students as they sit in the audience.

Off-screen background audio is heard:"Welcome to the 68th Commencement exercises of Brandeis University."

There is a medium shot of students laughing together in the audience. In the next shot, two students walk towards the camera holding a banner that reads: "Brandeis 2019 University." Quick shots of students looking towards the stage are seen on screen. Two small children embrace in a hug in the audience looking towards the stage.

President Ron Liebowitz begins to speak off-camera while students look on. The shot changes to President Liebowitz speaking at the podium: "I would say today's graduates, more than any other cohort of students since the 1960s, are intensely aware of the great challenges facing them and future generations. More importantly, these students are more willing to take action than their predecessors."

While Liebowitz speaks the montage of students continues. There is a close-up shot of one student looking at the camera, a close-up shot of two students' decorated mortar boards and students walking down the aisle smiling and waving.

R Remi Matthews '19 (2019 student speaker) begins to speak off-camera. There is open caption text on-screen as well as his name and class year: "We are the driving force behind our future and it's up to us to hold and take it into our arms."

On-screen is a slow motion shot of a group of students in black and white doing "the wave." Matthews speaks at the podium to the audience. The montage of students continues. There is a shot of a student walking towards her seat excited as well as a close-up shot of a conductor and his music sheets shot in slow motion.

The montage of student shots continues. There is a wide angle moving shot of students looking out from the audience, a medium shot of students dancing and laughing and a black and white shot of students laughing before they enter the audience.

Deborah Lipstadt begins to speak off-camera. The on-screen text reads: Deborah Lipstadt, MA '72, PhD '76: "Go forth, go out into the world, equipped with the blessing of this exemplary education you have received here at Brandeis, go forth and use the gift that has been given to you to repair the world, to heal the divisions, to fight all kinds of hate and prejudice. Let healing, let truth, let the fight against hate go viral."

The montage of students continues. There are a number of close-up shots featuring individual students. There are two medium shots that pan along groups of students. In the second shot the students are clapping. A wide angle shot showcasing the entirety of the audience is seen while two students walk together down the aisle. A close up shot appears of a decorated mortar board with the words "Just Got it."

The student montage continues. Students laugh while walking toward their seats. Close-up shots appear on-screen of students looking towards the podium in the audience. A slow motion shot of students taking a selfie appears on-screen in black and white.

Akash Kalra begins to speak off-screen. The on-onscreen text reads: "Akash Kalra, MBA '19":
"Brandeis has given me every single thing that I aspired to. It has made my American dream come true. More importantly, it has given me the self-confidence that I always lacked."

Kalra walks down the aisle smiling towards the stage. He speaks on-camera at the podium. Students in the audience look on as he speaks. Kalra's mother stands and claps in the audience. Kalra finishes his speech and more shots of students celebrating commencement continue.

The screen flashes quickly to white and the on-screen text reads: "Brandeis.edu — produced by Tarah Llewellyn." The screen quickly flashes to white again and there is a final shot in black and white of a student pointing to the camera.
