Description

If you are someone who has said "I cannot draw" but would like to, or if you like to draw but want to improve your skills, this class is a great place to start. Drawing is a skill that can be learned. This five-week course will start with simple exercises to help us understand how to go from seeing the three-dimensional image to translating it to two-dimensional marks on paper. The beginning classes will help us develop an understanding of how to break down a model (a still life, for example) into basic shapes and relationships. We will go on to use some centuries-old drawing techniques and examples showing the concept of Perspective as an inspiration and learning tool. In the last two sessions we will use a technique of transferring a photo or picture of your choice from a small square grid pattern to a larger one, creating a finished drawing. A goal of this course is for you to gain more confidence and feel comfortable drawing. I look forward to enjoying the experience with you.

Group Leadership Style

With direction, participants will be working/drawing for most of the class.

Course Materials

For the first class we will be using plain paper and #2B pencils. The SGL will explain some of the many choices of materials that you can purchase for working in the remaining classes. If you do have a sketch pad and pencil assortments, please bring them to the first class.

Preparation Time

Members will be expected to continue working on the skills as they are introduced.
