Camila Cano ’23 returns to campus to share her journey from Brandeis to the forefront of social innovation in Mexico City, in an inspiring conversation with students.

Hear firsthand how Camila’s experiences at Brandeis—both in and outside the classroom—shaped her path and how young changemakers can turn their ideas into action. Whether you're interested in social entrepreneurship, gender justice, or technology for impact, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss!

Camila Cano was born and raised in Mexico City. She attended an international school in Mexico before studying at Brandeis where she majored in Economics, Education Studies, and Sociology, and was a choreographer and performer with the Adagio Dance Ensemble. During her second year here, she created and taught a new course, along with a professor, focused on creative ways that artists and communities have countered gender-based violence around the globe, including in her native Mexico. Camila graduated in 2023 and is now on the staff of Violetta, a Mexico City-based organization aimed at the prevention of intimate partner violence. Violetta is a chatbot that focuses on the creation of healthy relationships, offering information, addressing questions and concerns, and guiding users to professional support. Violetta's website states: "Violetta emerged from the shared vision of four young women navigating their early post-college years during the onset of the Covid pandemic. Recognizing a significant societal challenge, they channeled their passion, personal experiences, and heightened awareness of how violence affects us all into crafting an innovative solution. "

Co-sponsored by Hiatt Career Center and Prevention, Advocacy and Resource Center (PARC), with support from CAST, LACLS, and Sociology UDRs.
