Introduction
The materials in the Brandeis University National Women’s Committee Collection include materials pertaining to the founding of the organization, correspondence, meeting minutes, educational materials and program booklets. These materials document the activities of the organization at the national and local level on behalf of the University and its Libraries.
What
The Brandeis University National Women’s Committee (now the Brandeis National Committee [BNC]) is the largest “friends of a library” group in the world with 48,000 members nationwide. A volunteer fundraising organization, it has contributed more than $58 million in support of the libraries of Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts, while utilizing the resources of the University to provide unique education programs for its members.

Why
To provide financial support and growth for the libraries of Brandeis University, a private, nonsectarian research university founded by the Jewish community in 1948.
Fundraising
Brandeis University’s largest single supporter, the Women’s Committee raises over $4 million a year for the University’s libraries through annual used book sales, book and author luncheons and unique fund raising programs.
Member Profile
Primarily college-educated book lovers with a passion for learning, most members continue their education through Study Group courses created by Brandeis faculty exclusively for the Women’s Committee, and University Outreach, an annual nationwide faculty lecture tour to Women’s Committee chapters.
