"The Castle"
Rock wall with Castle in the distance. Undated. Original format: black and white photograph.
“The location, chosen by [John Hall] Smith, was a rugged hilltop on the eastern edge of the campus, a site characterized by a dramatic outcropping of rock ledge. There, by using the same stones for the walls as those found on the natural outcropping, the massive walls of the Castle appear to grow directly out of the hillside.”
