Flex Studio
The Flex Studio is a unique high-tech recording space in the Brandeis Library for live tracking sessions. It has more floor space than the SIMS Sound Studio, allowing for flexible microphone setups to record larger groups, such as bands or ensembles. A Midas M32 Live digital mixing console serves as the main control interface for the studio- a powerful, professional, and intuitive console for piloting recording projects.
A qualified audio engineer must be present at all sessions to supervise recording in the Flex Studio. Patrons can either complete the steps to become a certified SIMS Audio Engineer, or fill out this form to request a recording session engineered by SIMS staff. If you have any questions about this process, reach out to us at sims@brandeis.edu.
Audio Engineer Training
To become a certified SIMS engineer and access this space yourself, you must complete these steps:
- Attend one of the Studio Recording workshops offered throughout the semester to gain recording experience and get oriented to the Flex Studio.
- Request an individual training session with one of our staff members to learn about leading recording sessions and using the equipment in the studio.
- Fill out an application form to receive certification to book the space and run your own recording sessions.
Request SIMS Recording Support
If you would like to record a project in the Flex Studio without going through the formal audio engineering training process yourself, please complete this form at least one week in advance of your first recording session to request a SIMS Support Specialist to supervise your session.
Flex Studio Recording Equipment
The Flex Studio has some equipment already set up in the space, ready to use for any recording session. You can check out additional items to bring into the space, including various instruments, amplifiers, and mics. For higher end equipment like specialized microphones, please consult with SIMS about your project in advance by contacting us at sims@brandeis.edu.
