Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg visited Brandeis twice after being confirmed to the nation’s highest court in 1993.

Brandeis University honors and celebrates the life and legacy of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Justice Ginsburg visited Brandeis twice after being confirmed to the nation’s highest court in 1993. Her first appearance on campus came in May 1996 when the university conferred upon Ginsburg an Honorary Degree in Laws. 

She returned to campus on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016 — one hundred years to the day that Brandeis University’s namesake Louis D. Brandeis was nominated to the Supreme Court — to offer remarks about Justice Brandeis’ legacy and his continued influence on public discourse and American law.

“The world has changed enormously. … Opportunities are excellent, but there are still challenges,” she said during her speech at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center. “One of the challenges is not to react in anger if you think you’re being put down because you are a woman.”
