This study used physiological and self-report measures to examine relations between specific behaviors participants engage in when thinking and talking about problems. The goal of the study was to understand how empathy, stress, and sub-component behaviors of problem talk are associated with each other and how they are related to depression and anxiety symptoms.
Stress, Social Support, and Depression Study

This study aimed to develop the understanding of social support’s role in protecting against mental illness, particularly depression. Stressful events can have a strong impact on mental health and this study investigates whether social support can help manage stress experiences, as well as for whom and under what circumstances social support might reduce the impact stress has on mental health, taking into consideration contexts such as who is providing the support and type of support.
COVID Expectations Study

This study aimed to learn more about how students were coping with the uncertain timeline of when "things will return to normal" from the COVID-19 pandemic (e.g., when masks will no longer be required, when non-distanced in-person activities can resume, etc.), and how this, along with dispositional factors like optimism and pessimism, affect mental health and wellbeing.

We recruited college students during the COVID-19 pandemic (Fall 2020) to participate in a 12-day daily diary study to examine how students were coping with daily life stressors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

We recruited college students at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic (April 2020) to participate in an eight-week longitudinal study to examine stress, coping, and mental health during the early days of the pandemic.

We recruited college students to participate in a short-term longitudinal study to understand why EF impairments are so broadly associated with psychopathology. To address these broad associations, the study investigates links between cognitive control, stress generation, stress reactivity, and coping.
Brandeis Counseling Center Project
CoPE Lab & Brandeis Counseling Center
We worked with the Brandeis Counseling Center on developing and implementing procedures and programs that demonstrate efficacy in improving mental health outcomes. Our goal was to disseminate innovative translational clinical science research, and provide rigorous and valid evaluation information to the BCC to enable them to optimize their treatment services.
