This video shows scenes of students moving into their Brandeis residents halls, along with
interviews with parents and students. Quiet, contemplative piano and guitar music plays softly
in the background.
The video opens with Department of Community Living staff assisting incoming students under
a blue pop-up tent in the Theater Lot.
A voice says:"Today. I am moving in, freshman year." The camera pans up to a student with
curly black hair and gray t-shirt smiling nervously as he takes a set of keys.
The video shows a DCL staff member handing a student keys.
A new voiceover starts: "Very exciting. Very nerve wracking. I'm feeling a little nervous, but I'm
definitely getting more excited as the day goes on. I am feeling very excited."
We see a DCL staffer in a blue shirt in the parking lot with cars lined up, then a student using a
tablet under the blue pop-up tent.
We see a student identified as "Ella, student at Brandeis" in the captions, wearing a blue
Brandeis t-shirt. Next to her is "Ella's mom" in a plain black t-shirt. There is a residence hall and
picnic tables behind them. Then a shot of people walking next to a building.
Music begins to swell.
"A little bit anxious," Ella continues."New place, cross-country. So but it's very good overall."
Scene shifts to people pulling items out of the hatchbacks of cars, moving bags. New voiceover:
I have a lot of emotions. I'm, first of all, very, very proud of him. He's worked really hard to get
here."
Shift to scene with "Karen, Samuel's mom" on the left and Samuel, Brandeis student" on the
left. Karen is in a white t-shirt, Samuel is in a blue t-shirt with a cartoon picture of a fox and is
wearing a white baseball cap.
Karen continues speaking: "I'm a little sad because there's, ah. Childhood is now behind us and
we're going to be entering into a different relationship. It's also really exciting because I get to
see what he's going to do and what he's going to become in these next few years."
As she speaks, scene shifts to someone carrying shopping bags upstairs.
New voice: "Really excited for my daughter. She's so thrilled to be here-"
Music becomes more upbeat and lighter.
Scene shifts to "Erica, student at Brandeis" on the left and "Shann, Erica's mom" on the right,
with a brick building behind them.
Shann continues: "and exciting for her to move away from home. And she's our last one
out of the house. So it's - we're very excited for her."
Scene shifts to a shot of people walking down a residence hall corridor.
Shann says "She's just thrilled to be here."
Scenes of a parent and student unpacking items inside residence hall room.
Voiceover: "I am mostly feeling really excited and super happy for her that she gets to do this
and a little bit sad because I'm going to miss her."
Scene shifts to "Jaylynn, student at Brandeis." Jaylynn is standing in front of a brick building
with many windows and says says: "So my mom, I'd like to say I love you. Thank you so much
for supporting me. Loving me, and giving me the opportunity.
Images of a gray car pulling away from a residence hall building, an orientation leader in a teal
t-shirt and baseball cap pointing, two students carrying a small refrigerator.
Erica says, "I'd like to say thank you for getting me through everything, and for taking me here
and getting me all settled in." Shann puts their arm around Erica, scene shifts to people taking
bags out of the trunks of cars.
"To my mother and my father," voiceover says.
Scene shifts to student standing next to a parent, who is smiling at the student.
"I, I will miss you very much, but this will be very good for me. And the time change won't be
bad."
Images of Community Advisors talking in a group under a tree.
"So we'll be fine. We'll communicate," student says.
Samuel says: "I hope that my parents, they keep rooting for me,
Shot shifts to Karen and Samuel.
"That they keep supporting me, which I know they will. And don't get too emotional. I'll see you
again."
Karen laughs.
Video fades to a blue slide with "Brandeis" in white.
Voiceover "She's a weeper."
Video opens back up on Ella and Rebecca. "It's okay. It's totally fine." Says Rebecca, laughing
and crying at the same time. "This is fully on brand for me, right? Fully on brand."
"You know, this is calm,"Ella says, patting Rebecca on the shoulder. "This is chill."
