Being Bold at Brandeis
Descriptive Transcript
At the beginning of the video we see aerial shots of Ridge A dorm on campus and we see a small mural behind glass. A reflective song is playing and we hear Erica a student talking, she says: “Hi, my name is Erica. I am a junior studying business and psychology with a minor in economics. So I’m here with The Ridge A mural that I’ve been working on with my other friends. None of us working on this are art major, so we’re kind of doing this for fun. It’s a project with DCL Department of Community Living. Me and another CA (Community Advisors). We are just working on this because it’s a residence hall.”
We see multiple shots of the Erica painting the mural along with some other students. She continues; “I was given complete creative freedom with the project and when I was coming up with the design, I was trying to figure out what were some iconic aspects or symbols of Brandeis that I could work with, make it into a mural. And I eventually thought of the Light of Reason, which is a sculpture in front of the Rose Art Museum. The sculpture itself is based off Louis Brandeis quote, “If we would guide by the Light of Reason, we must let our minds be bold”, which I think is a very powerful quote.” As the student talks we see shots of the students painting the mural and shots of the Light of Reason on campus.
The students says: “I thought it would be just empowering and inspirational. Every time students would walk by, they would feel empowered by seeing it.” We then see quick timelapses of the students working on the mural day and night. The music changes to a hip-hop fast paced tone, and the students says: “This has been a lot of trial and error, lots of going out and buying more paint, mixing colors, fixing up tape. It’s been an exciting process and I’m really excited to see the outcome.” We see more shots of the students painting, Erica continues; “What I like best about the Brandeis community is the sense of community since it’s very welcoming and inclusive. And that’s what I was told on a tour and when I came here it turned out to be true and everything I’ve been involved with on campus I feel like really helps me dive deeper into that. This is a place where, I feel like, it has really allowed me to grow as a person and it’s a place where I feel like I can be myself. Everyone is very passionate about everything they do and is not afraid to just do what they enjoy. So I feel like That’s such a great community to be around and always motivates me, like every day.” As the video comes to an end, we see numerous shots of different Brandeis students on campus having fun on different activities.
The music comes to an end and we see the Brandeis logo fade in and then fade out.
