Scan on Demand

Scan on Demand is available for all Brandeis faculty, staff, and students. With Scan on Demand, you can request scanned chapters and articles from print or microform materials in the Brandeis Library collection.

Request Digital Items from the Brandeis Library

Follow the steps below to request scanned chapters or articles from Brandeis-owned physical items.

Search for the item in OneSearch.
Click on the title.
In the Get it from interlibrary loan and Scan on Demand section, click on one of the request options for digital content. (If you’re not logged in, you’ll need to do so in order to see this option.)
Fill out the form and click “Send Request.”

Who can use Scan on Demand?

What can I request through Scan on Demand?

You can request scans (PDF copies) of individual articles or book chapters, from books, journals, conference proceedings, theses, dissertations, reports, newspapers, or microfilm held locally in the Brandeis Libraries. This includes chapters from books on reserve, but only when classes are not in session. Please submit these requests via the interlibrary loan form.

What can't be requested through Scan on Demand?

We cannot scan an entire book, an article or chapter that exceeds fifty scanned pages, or an amount that exceeds copyright fair use.

Library materials in University Archives and Special Collections, items that are currently on reserve when school is in session, and items that are checked out to you or that are on hold for you, are not eligible for this service.

Library materials on reserve are not eligible for this service beginning at 3 p.m. on the Friday before the first day of classes and continuing through the end of final exams.

Is there a limit to how many items I can request?

By using the Scan on Demand service and submitting requests for materials, users accept responsibility for complying with United States Copyright Law.

Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of those specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
