Enrollment Certification With the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Students who are eligible for Veterans Affairs benefits and wish to have their Brandeis University enrollment certified with the VA should complete the Request for VA Certification form each semester that they wish to be certified.

If you are a new student, or if your certificate of eligibility has expired, you will be asked to upload a new certificate eligibility before submitting the request form. In lieu of a certificate of eligibility, a "Statement of Benefits" obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs — eBenefits will also be accepted. Students eligible for Chapter 31 are not required to upload a certificate of eligibility, but should still complete the Request for VA Certification form each semester. Any questions or concerns can be directed to Taylor Seidel at 781-736-2014 or tseidel@brandeis.edu.

Please be aware that certification of your enrollment with the VA does not guarantee payment by the VA. It is the student's responsibility to review his or her benefits and entitlement with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Billing

Brandeis University's billing policy is compliant with the requirements of 38 USC 3679(e). Any individual who is entitled to educational assistance under Chapter 31, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, or Chapter 33, Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefits will be permitted to attend or participate in the course of education during the period beginning on the date on which the individual provides to the educational institution a certificate of eligibility for entitlement to educational assistance under Chapter 31 or Chapter 33, and ending on the earlier of the following dates:

  1. The date on which payment from VA is made to the institution.
  2. Ninety days after the date the institution certified tuition and fees following the receipt of the certificate of eligibility.

For students under Chapter 33, a certificate of eligibility can also include a "Statement of Benefits" obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs — eBenefits. For students under Chapter 31, a VAF 28-1905 form serves as an authorization of benefits.

Brandeis University will not impose any penalty, including an assessment of late fees; the denial of access to classes, libraries or other institutional facilities; or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds because of the individual's inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to delayed disbursement funding from VA under Chapter 31 or Chapter 33.

Return of Tuition Assistance Funds

When a student withdraws during a period in which they receive Tuition Assistance funds, the amount of funds that must be returned to the program is based solely on the length of time the student was enrolled prior to withdrawing.

The amount of funds earned by the student is directly proportional to time enrolled, through 60% of the period of enrollment. After 60%, the student is considered to have earned all aid. Unearned Tuition Assistance aid must be returned to the program.
