Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship Program (TWISP)
The Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship Program (TWISP) provides undergraduate and graduate students from Japan with opportunities to study at Brandeis University on full-tuition scholarships.
Established in 2018, the Toshizo Watanabe International Scholarship Program (TWISP) at Brandeis University is committed to providing students and alumni from esteemed Japanese institutions with the opportunity to study at Brandeis University. Watanabe Scholars include graduate and undergraduate students who have studied or are currently studying at a Japanese university.
Through the generous support of Toshizo “Tom” Watanabe ’73, a Brandeis University alumnus and former Wien Scholar, Watanabe Scholars receive full tuition and a partial stipend for living expenses. Mr. Watanabe is president of the Toshizo Watanabe Foundation and chair emeritus and former president and CEO of Nikken Global, an international home wellness products company.

Watanabe Scholars are eligible to attend Brandeis University, in-person, as either undergraduate or graduate students. Students interested in learning more about the TWISP are encouraged to email twisp@brandeis.edu.
Eligibility Requirements
Undergraduate Students
- Students applying for admission to Brandeis as first-year or transfer applicants must be graduating from a Japanese high school or transferring from a Japanese university.
- Current undergraduate students who wish to attend Brandeis for a maximum of two semesters as exchange students. Students must attend eligible Japanese institutions (Keio University, Waseda University, and the University of Tokyo) and must carry a full time (12 credits) course load each semester at Brandeis.
Graduate Students
- Current graduate students attending a Japanese institution who wish to come on exchange to Brandeis are eligible for a Watanabe Scholarship for a maximum of 2 semesters.
- Students who graduated from a Japanese institution who wish to matriculate at Brandeis in a graduate degree program may be eligible for up to 2 years of support through the Watanabe scholarship.
