Digital Scholarship Lab
The Digital Scholarship (DS) Lab brings together students, faculty, and staff to pursue humanistic research questions through digital tools, methods and practices. This lab is for projects that require more computational work: complex geospatial analyses, crunching data sets, rendering complex geometries, creating virtual experiences, or coding that requires larger displays. Our tools include AutoCad, matlab, ArcGIS Pro, 3D scanning and 3D rendering, Unity, Unreal Engine, and other data analysis, coding, or simulation software.
Current major projects include:
- Training and support for the digitization efforts of the Classical Studies Artifact Research Collection (CLARC) interns
- Directing the Landscapes on High Archaeological Project, which utilizes geospatial technology and digital text analysis to explore ancient Greek mountain sanctuaries
- Supporting the SCAPP BOT Project, a Single Camera Photogrammetry Platform designed as a relatively low-cost and easily reproduced as an alternative to other digital imaging equipment
- Developing the Brandeis Digital Scholarship Hub, which provides entry-level access to digital analyses for Humanities and Social Sciences thinkers
Individuals or groups with ideas for projects, or that are looking for digital resources, are welcome to stop by or email makerlab@brandeis.edu for more information. If you're a Brandeis community member and ready to start using the lab, sign up for a training session via the Brandeis Library Workshop calendar.
