Starry Night
Caroline Rourke ’17 studied abroad last spring in Dunedin, New Zealand, where she took classes in anthropology at the University of Otago. Rourke and her friends traveled most weekends, opting to pitch tents under a canopy of stars rather than stay in hotels.
“I’m not a big photographer, but New Zealand is a stunning country that makes anyone into a good one,” says Rourke, who composed this scene with Heidi Westerman, a senior at Wesleyan, and Kirsten Valentini, a senior at Bucknell.
“We were trying to contrast the vastness and beauty of New Zealand’s night sky against our lit-up tents,” says Rourke. “We wanted to capture this powerful experience.”
