Digital Accessibility Today
Although the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does not track "digital accessibility" as a unique job category, roles in web development and digital design — which include accessibility responsibilities — are projected to grow by 8% from 2023 to 2033. This growth is fueled by an increasing need for organizations to make websites and digital content accessible to all users, including those with disabilities.
In the U.S., the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act mandate digital accessibility for public-facing content, creating strong incentives for businesses to invest in accessibility training and certifications for their teams.
A master’s certificate in digital accessibility could be valuable for those interested in fields like web development, digital design and compliance management, where accessibility skills are increasingly sought after by employers.
