The Brandeis International Business School Rosenberg Professor of Global Finance Dr. Catherine L. Mann was appointed as the new Chief Economist for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The internationally renowned organization is composed of 34 member countries and promotes policies that improve global economic and social well-being.

“We are delighted that one of our esteemed faculty, Dr. Mann, has been appointed to this position of tremendous significance,” said International Business School Dean Bruce Magid. “Her policy expertise, global research focus, and leadership make her a world-class educator, and we are eager to see her knowledge and skills applied to solving the great economic and social challenges we face.”

“It is an honor to receive this appointment and for the opportunity to work with so many individuals who care deeply about making a difference in the lives of people around the world,” said Dr. Catherine Mann. “Our most intractable global problems also present our greatest opportunities to have an impact in the lives of current and future generations.”

In her new role, Dr. Mann will supervise the contributions of the Economics Department to the New Approaches to Economic Challenges (NAEC) initiative, serve as OECD Representative at the Deputies’ meetings of the G20 Finance Track, and report directly to the Secretary-General.

Dr. Mann joined the the business school faculty in 2006 after over 20 years working in policy institutions and think tanks in Washington, D.C., including the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, the President’s Council of Economic Advisers at the White House, and the World Bank.

Dr. Mann, who will assume her new role in October, will be the second female and first American Chief Economist in the history of the OECD.
