Project Information

Brandeis University Professor Joyce Antler (Emerita ) is continuing work on an ongoing  project involving research on nine women in Louis Brandeis' family who deeply influenced his education, interests, and ideas. Brandeis' mother, sister, wife, sisters-in-law, daughters and nieces played a remarkable but unheralded role in the Justice's development and achievements.

Professor Antler is seeking an intern to help create short biographies of these women (30%) and assist with archival research at the Brandeis University Archives, the Schlesinger Library at the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (40%), and online (30%). A specific focus will be photographical research about the women and the worlds in which they lived and work. The intern may also help to develop themes and research ideas.

Profile of Appropriate Candidate

  • Demonstrated interest in American Jewish history

  • Interest in archival research and biography

  • Excellent online and library research skills

  • Experience working with archival materials, especially photographic materials, helpful, but not required

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete assignments independently
