Custodial Services
The Custodial Services Team is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing and ensuring a professional appearance of 100 campus buildings. Our team of 70 custodians is broken down into four major specialty areas: administration buildings, academic buildings, athletic buildings, and residence halls.
Please Note: Any area designated as a student responsibility will not be cleaned by Custodial Services. For more information, please see the Department of Community Living (DCL) website.
Summary of Services
Custodial Services provides daily routine maintenance and support on a set schedule for each building on campus. There are times that Custodial Services may be able to provide services beyond these routine services for a fee. If you would like to request additional services you will need to submit a service request along with a cost center number well in advance of when you will need these services performed. A member of the Facilities Services team will contact you regarding the scope of work, a cost estimate and schedule.

Routine Services are essential services in which Custodial Services is budgeted and staffed to provide.
Cleaning
- Planned carpet shampoo/cleaning, floor strip and wax done every 24 months
- Graffiti removal
- Routine cleaning services performed daily in general use spaces such as lobbies, corridors, restrooms, and other public areas*
- Routine cleaning services in offices, classrooms, and other supported areas*
- Spill cleanup in public areas
- Trash removal of regular trash in standard containers in buildings
- Recycling and compost removal in standard containers in buildings
- Exterior window washing
*Custodial Services performs routine cleaning tasks based on specific types of spaces and at specific frequencies during the year. Please see the custodial cleaning schedules below for more information on when a specific cleaning might happen for your type of space.
Furniture and Furniture Resets
- Annual classroom furniture reset in classrooms at beginning of each semester
- Annual residential furniture replacement
Custodial Services may be able to provide support or coordinate support for needs outside of the tasked responsibilities. These services will require a fee from the requesting department. Requests for these services must be submitted through a service request. A member of the Facilities Team will contact about estimations, scope considerations, and scheduling. Pass-through service are services provided to the university by outside vendors and are requested through the facilities services work order management system. Facilities only manages the request for the outside vendor.
Moving Services
Olympia Moving handles moving services for the university. Estimates are provided by Olympia Moving for the scope of the work. Please place a service request for an estimate. Moving services include the following:
- Rearranging or transporting furniture or department equipment
- Delivery of items from surplus furniture program
If you are planning an event on campus we encourage you to visit the University Events website for guidelines and support for services from across campus. There are times when events happen on campus that do not involve University Events but do require the services of facilities. In these instances, we require prior notice by submitting a service request detailing your event and the service you require. Below are guidelines for when you should request services from facilities:
- 100+ person event with/without food: anytime/day, space set up/break down (requires area bathroom cleaning, trash removal, event space cleaning)
- 50+ person event with food: space set up/ break down; anytime/day (requires area bathroom cleaning, trash removal, event space cleaning)
- 20+ person event with food: space set up/break down after 4 p.m., on weekends or holidays (requires area bathroom cleaning, trash removal, event space cleaning)
- Anytime there is a need for extra trash removal, bathroom cleaning, entrance clearing for snow/leaves or adjustment of heat/cooling

Facilities Services support is limited to university facilities and property. Due to liability risks, Facilities Services is unable to loan out equipment to contractors, faculty, staff, or students.
