Microsoft Copilot

Brandeis community members have access to Microsoft Copilot under our A1 and A3 M365 licensing. As long as you are using Copilot with an @brandeis.edu account, your data is kept secure and is not shared outside of your account. For more information on accessing M365, including Copilot, visit the ITS Microsoft Information Webpage. You can also compare Copilot to Gemini and other platforms using our Comparison Table.

Copilot Chat

All FTE Faculty, Staff, Current Students, Temporary staff, scholars and researchers with affiliate appointments only, and contingent workers may access to Copilot Chat online by logging into M365 Office using your Brandeis credentials.

Features:

  • Enterprise Data Protection:  This ensures that your data is not accessible outside of Brandeis. Your data will not be shared with others and is not being used by Microsoft to train their models or to provide information to others outside of our institutionWhen using Copilot, you must be signed in with an @brandeis.edu account to access this feature.
  • Copilot Chat (Video)
You can use Copilot Chat to do market research, write a strategy document, prepare for a meeting and for many other purposes.
  • Copilot Pages (Video)
With Copilot Pages, you can collaborate on content with people and AI in real time—adding content from Copilot, your files, and now from the web as well.
  • File Upload1
Copilot allow you to add any document to the chat and ask Copilot to do things like summarize key points in a Word document, analyze data in an Excel spreadsheet, and suggest improvements to a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Code Interpreter1
This feature allows users to directly execute Python code to solve complex tasks like data analysis, visualization, and calculations.
  • Image Generation2
You can quickly create AI-generated images for campaigns, product launches, and social media posts.
  • Copilot Agents (for Copilot Chat)
Copilot agents are AI-powered assistants that work with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to help users complete tasks. They can be created inside of Copilot Chat as long as the data sources are grounded in web-data (e.g. from websites). They can automate repetitive tasks, provide suggestions, create custom chatbots and offer insights. More information can be found on the Microsoft Agents Introduction Website.

Currently, our licensing does not allow for access to Copilot Personal Assistant, which provides integration with M365 products such as Word, Excel, etc.

1 File upload limits apply. Microsoft changes upload limits frequently. As of 4/2/25, the file upload limit is 1MB

2 Image generation limits apply, 15 per day as of 4/2/25

Copilot Studio

Copilot Studio allows you to create more robust agents using not only web-data, but also by connecting to other systems and data sources. Learn more about Copilot Studio at Microsoft's Copilot Studio Capabilities website.

Copilot Studio is available on a trial basis. As of April 2nd, 2025, the trial lasts for 60 days, although when the trial expires you can extend it by an additional 30 days. Any agents created will continue to run for an additional 90 days past the trial end-date. Due to security and Brandeis policy limitations, it may not be possible to attach studio-agents to other systems on campus without first talking to the owner or administrator of those systems.
