Microsoft 365 Applications - Deprecation and Licensing Updates
Microsoft 365 Education licensing allows faculty, staff, and students to have access to a suite of Microsoft 365 applications. To align with the University's priorities, some of the applications that are part of the Microsoft suite will be disabled. These applications, with some exceptions (which are explained below), are not commonly used at Brandeis and therefore do not have technical resources to support them. Please review our list of supported applications (such as Google Suite, Zoom, Box, and others). What Applications are Being Disabled?

Skype for Business, SharePoint and Teams - Licensing and Access Information
The University currently does not support SharePoint, Skype for Business or Teams as we have other licenses and supported alternatives (Box or Google Drive for document sharing, Zoom or Google Meet for video conferencing, Google Chat for instant messaging). We are aware that other colleges and universities, vendors, and community partners use these applications and that we at Brandeis are asked to use them as well.
You will continue to be able to use SharePoint, Skype for Business and Teams as a guest, meaning if you are given access to another individual's, company's, or university's instance you can still access these applications. You will not be able to host nor will you be able to invite others to a SharePoint site, nor will you be able to host Skype for Business or Teams meetings. You will not be able to sign into Teams or Skype for Business with a Brandeis username and password nor will you be able to create SharePoint sites.
You will not be prevented from joining Skype for Business or Teams meetings; however you will not be able to launch these meetings from an application. If you receive a Skype for Business or Teams invite, you will be able to use them as an attendee in the client application. If you receive an invite to access a SharePoint site, you will be able to view and download documents; you will not able to host a SharePoint site.
As a reminder, we have licensed and supported solutions for Google Meet and Zoom as our teleconferencing tools. We also have licensed and supported solutions for collaborative Cloud Storage (e.g., Google Drive and Box) as an alternative to SharePoint.
